NAA is seeking interns!

Nashville Area Arts offers several competitive internships. A public private partnership comprised of museums, galleries, art centers and established artist's groups or cooperatives in the greater Nashville area that exhibit or interpret visual art as their primary focus, NAA provides information on the visual arts in Middle Tennessee and facilitates dialogue between local and visiting artists, writers, and curators. NAA intern positions listed below.


Events and Administration Intern
 FALL '08 POSITION FILLED

This intern will assist the director with basic site administration and calendar upkeep.

Duties include:
· check database for new events posted by members
· research events to post for members
· send weekly event posting reminders
· contact NAA members to arrange studio visits with their visiting artists

Required skills:
· Ability to research via the web
· good organizational skills
· Basic photo editing knowledge
· Professional phone and email demeanor
· Attention to detail
· Ability to work on own

Internship Time Commitment:
Ongoing with a 4 month minimum commitment
10 hours per week on average to include 9 hours working on own time, 1 hour to check in with NAA director


Art Articles Researcher/Cataloger
This intern will coordinate NAA Art Articles page updates including compiling an art blogs listing. Intern will also research contemporary art publications in library holdings to compile an ongoing record of articles on Nashville area artists and galleries in local, regional and national publications, using a standard bibliographic format. Articles will be listed in this format. The intern will also compile article excerpts.

Required skills:
· Thorough library and internet research skills
· Familiarity with bibliography styles
· Good organization
· Detail oriented

Internship Time Commitment:
Ongoing with 3 month commitment to start
10 hours per week


Special Projects Intern – NAA Studio Tour Organizer
In the Spring and Summer of 2009, Naa will need of two interns to help plan and organize a gallery and studio tour in Fall 2009.

#1 Intern Duties:
· Contact local artists via email and phone for studio and contact address information
· Map studios for tour
· Work with NAA graphic designer on studio tour poster
· Work with Intern #2 on tour

#2 Intern Duties:
· Enlist volunteer help for event day
· Obtain sponsorship from local businesses
· Potentially write grant in support for public funding
· Work with Intern #1 on tour

Required skills:
· Ability to research via the web
· Good organizational skills
· Professional phone and email demeanor
· Attention to detail
· Ability to work on own

Internship Time Commitment:
5 month minimum commitment
10 hours per week to include 9 hours working on own time, 1 hour to check in with NAA director. Hours to extend at studio tour time.


Each intern will be supervised by Jenny Gill, Executive Director of NAA and Gallery Director at the University of the South. While initial NAA internships are unpaid positions, NAA offers the possibility for advancement to NAA Partner status, which would result in a paid position for future work with the organization. NAA internships offer unsurpassed opportunities to learn about the contemporary art scene and make connections within the local arts community while gaining valuable administrative and research skills. While interns need not be students, when applicable NAA will make every effort to work with a school to arrange credit.
